    NC Social Care

    This course is designed for those who would like to work in Social Care. This course includes a work placement in a Social Care setting.

    Employment Options  

    Various posts at an unpromoted level within social care such as care assistants and support workers. with client groups such as older adults, people with disabilities, people with learning difficulties.

    This course is designed for those who have experience in a recognised Social Care setting and wish to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

    Employment Options  

    Completion of HNC Social Care will permit registration with SSSC as a care worker and will allow working with all client groups within the Social Care Sector.

  • BA/Diploma of Higher Education: Education & Social Services

    BA/Diploma of Higher Education: Education & Social Services

    This programme is designed for students with a relevant HNC who wish to continue their studies to progress into employment within a social care, healthcare or educational services environment. The course is developed to meet the requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) at a senior level.

    This course is run in partnership with the University of Strathclyde. The initial year of the course offers a Diploma qualification which is delivered at Langside College. Students will be introduced to the University and will participate in partnership teaching and learning at the University campus. Upon successful completion of the Diploma, students can directly advance to the BA programme at the University of Strathclyde where they will continue their studies to complete the BA Education and Social Services.

    Employment Options  

    A diverse range of options are available to students including supporting service users in mental health, addictions, homelessness, learning disability, family and education settings.

    On completion of the BA programme, students are eligible to register with the SSSC. This will allow you to progress through employment in the Social Services Sector to senior positions in Adult Services. In addition you will have a recognised academic degree at SCQF Level 9 for work in Children’s Services and will require a recognised SSSC qualification for working at a senior level in Children’s Services.

    Educational Progression Routes

    Many students choose to continue their studies at Post Graduate level. Examples of courses that students have been successful in obtaining are: Drug and Alcohol Studies, Criminology Studies, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Primary Teaching, Autism Studies and Counselling Studies.

    SVQ Health & Social Care Level 2

    Suitable for candidates who work in residential, day or home care settings and normally carry out direct caring tasks including personal care. Candidates are required to compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate understanding of theory, principles and practices.

    Employment Options  

    Candidates would already be employed as a Home Carer or Support Worker.

    Educational Progression Routes

    Candidates could only progress to SVQ 3 if they gained a care worker post with a higher level of responsibility.

    SVQ Health & Social Care (Adults) or (Children & Young People) Level 3

    This course is designed for candidates who are normally carrying out tasks such as key working, assessment and care planning and implementing care plans. Candidates must work in residential, day and home care settings. Candidates are required to compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate understanding of theory, principles and practices.

    Employment Options  

    Candidates will already be in employment as a residential childcare worker.

    Educational Progression Routes

    Provides mandatory units and underpinning knowledge which can give credit towards an HNC in Social Care.

    SVQ Health & Social Care (Adults) or (Children & Young People) Level 4

    This course is designed for candidates who have to be involved in a broad range of complex, technical or professional work activities. They will be performed in a wide variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. They will often be responsible for the work of others and for allocating resources. Their job title may be Assistant Manager, Depute Manager or Manager. Candidates are required to compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate understanding of theory, principles and practices.

    Employment Options  

    Candidates must be in employment as a manager of a care service.

    Educational Progression Routes

    May provide evidence or underpinning knowledge for further management qualifications.
