International Events
International Office organises a varied social programme for international students to help them make the most of their 'Langside Experience'. This programme includes visits to local places of interest and social evenings, as well as trips further afield to visit famous Scottish landmarks. International students are encouraged to participate in other College wide social events, which take place regularly throughout the year.
International Office regularly arranges various information sessions on opening a bank account, immigration changes, routes to universities etc.
2009-10 Events
Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Ice Skating - April 2010
During the Easter holidays the International Office arranged a day trip which involved an outing to Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Ice Skating. In the morning students enjoyed spending time in the Art Gallery viewing the many different exhibits from different countries and cultures. In the afternoon the students took part in Ice Skating, it was tricky at first but students seem to get the hang of it in the end.

Chinese New Year - February 2010
To celebrate Chinese New Year the International Office invited all International Students to celebrate the Year of the Tiger. Students enjoyed traditional Chinese food and heard a presentation from Ali about the various cultural events he had attended at Langside College.

Immigration Advice- February 2010
The International Office organised a speaker from the Relocation Advisory Service (RAS) to come in and speak a little about the recent changes to the student immigration rules. Students also received information about Post Study Work and also had the opportunity to ask questions at the end.

Robert Burns Lunch - January 2010
To celebrate Robert Burns Anniversary the International Office held a lunch for staff and students on 21st of January. Marianne Harper performed an address to the haggis and a traditional dish of Haggis, Neeps (Turnips) and Tatties (Potatoes) were served.

Christmas Party - December 2009
To celebrate Christmas, International Students were invited to join the English Department at their annual Christmas Party. The students enjoyed some party food and took part in traditional Scottish dancing and music which was played by a live band. Students then had a go at winning prizes in some festive party games such as Musical Chairs. At the end of the party all students joined in to sing some popular Christmas carols.

St Andrews Day Movie Night - November 2009
To commemorate St Andrews Day the International Office organised a Movie Night. Saint Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland and St. Andrews Day is celebrated by Scots around the world on 30th November. The International Office organised a showing of the popular film 'Braveheart', students enjoyed pizza while watching this epic movie.

Halloween Party - 31 October 2009
Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31st and it is traditional to dress-up in costume and go 'trick or treating'. To commemorate Halloween the International Office organised a Halloween Party and students took part in a Halloween Quiz with Scottish themed questions and the lucky winner Usman won a special prize. Students were offered traditional Halloween treats including candy apple, jellys and monkey nuts and in the end everyone took part in the Halloween game of 'dooking' or bobbing for apples.

Edinburgh Day Trip - October 2009
During the October holidays the International Office arranged a day trip to the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh. The students visited Edinburgh Castle and took advantage of the amazing view of the whole of Edinburgh. The weather was beautiful and the students managed to eat lunch outside in the steps of Hunter Square. The second part of the day was spent in Dynamic Earth, a science centre that tells the story of our planets. During our walk to Dynamic Earth the students also got to view the surrounding areas including the Scottish Parliament.

Eid Lunch - September 2009
To celebrate the end of Ramadan in September the International Office arranged an Eid lunch with traditional South-East Asian food and music. International Students told us all about Eid celebrations. Many students wore the national dress, Shalwar Kameez.

Ceilidh Night - September 2009
Our International students were invited to attend a traditional Scottish night at Glasgow Caledonian University, who Langside College has articulation links with. The students enjoyed traditional Scottish music and learned to Ceilidh dance alongside other International students. A traditional Scottish meal of haggis, neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes) was served to keep everyone's energy up for the dancing.

Glasgow Bus Tour - August 2009
As part of Induction Week in August the International Office invited all students for a Glasgow Bus Tour. It was a nice day and the students got to see the different sights of Glasgow including Museums, Parks, Theatres and Glasgow Cathedral.
