Learning Development UnitI would like to welcome you to the Learning Development Unit and in particular to our own special type of learning – the Flexible Learning Centre (FLC) on the Langside Campus. Learning with us in the FLC is about learning at a time, place and time which suits you. There are no formal classes: you learn at your own pace with a tutor always present to help you if you need help. You don't have to wait for August or January to enrol but can come along, have an interview with a tutor and start whenever is suitable for you. Many of our courses are approved for Individual Learning Accounts, the Executive scheme for encouraging learning, and if you are eligible you can use your ILA with us. If you want to improve your computing skills we have courses ranging from beginners to advanced users. We also offer Sage Accounts courses and a whole range of LearnDirect Scotland short courses which include business topics and personal development topics. Our centre is very relaxed and many learners form lasting friendships with staff and other learners. If you can't fit in classes at fixed times each week because you work shifts, have family care commitments or other reasons which make it difficult to attend regular classes, the FLC may suit you. We are open five days a week and three evenings a week. During college holidays (except for Christmas holidays) we remain open for three hours per day so you can continue to attend without large breaks in your course. Many of our learners have found attending the centre has helped them with skills they need at work or has given them the qualifications and confidence to look for work or go on to further courses in the college. We hold a Celebration of Learning every year which highlights learners who have overcome difficulties and made outstanding progress. In addition to the FLC, we provide other services for learners including the College Learning and Information Centre, Guidance and Learner Support and Careers Advice. If you have a disability which requires support, our Guidance Co-ordinator will offer expert advice about appropriate assistive technologies or other reasonable adjustments. Everyone in the LDU looks forward to assisting you to learn at Langside College.
