Arts, Languages & Social Science

Head of Faculty – Neil Carwood

I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Faculty of Arts, Languages and Social Sciences. I am sure you will find a stimulating and rewarding course amongst the wide range on offer.

The Faculty employs around 60 staff mainly based in the Main Campus located on Prospecthill Road.

We cover a wide range of courses at various levels from Access programmes through to HNC, HND and post graduate Diploma. Each of our courses is a recognised qualification which can be used to improve your employment prospects or as an entry qualification for HNC/D or University courses.

'The Highers Programme' offered at Langside College is the widest selection in Scotland from Pre-Higher through to Advanced Higher and A Level. Our excellent reputation for the delivery of this programme was recently reinforced by a pass rate of 60% amongst our students compared with 48% throughout the remaining Glasgow Colleges. In addition, Langside College is proud to be the first further education college to offer the new Higher ESOL.

We also deliver a number of specialised courses such as Art and Design, Acting and Performance, Music Performance, TESOL and Social Sciences.

Our Art and Design courses are delivered in a friendly, supportive atmosphere and cover a variety of techniques and materials; ensuring that students develop a full range of artistic skills.

Langside College was one of the first colleges to offer full-time Acting and Performance qualifications. Our students experience all aspects of the stage with many different performances being run throughout the year in our suite of theatres, often in collaboration with our Music Department.

ESOL courses are offered throughout the local area at various times and locations – so there is bound to be a class time to suit you! On the other hand, if you are interested in gaining qualifications in TESOL, the College offers an introductory course through to the post graduate diploma course which is offered part-time at the Langside Campus or full-time as a 4 week residential course in Malta, allowing you to learn while enjoying a Mediterranean beach!

Our HNC and HND Social Science courses include a wide variety of subjects like Criminology and Philosophy. Langside College enjoys a close relationship with local Universities in this area with students who decide to progress their studies entering second or third year on some University courses.

We are sure you will find something to interest you within the comprehensive range of courses offered by the Faculty of Arts, Languages and Social Science.
