Archival Sound Recordings (British Library)A very diverse selection of audio clips, including spoken word, music and sounds, from the British Library Sound Archive which you can listen to and download. Web address: http://sounds.bl.uk Brill Journal ArchiveThis archive provides access to over 50,000 scholarly and technical articles on subjects such as biology, the humanities, human rights, international law, science, and the social sciences. CANS Advice NotesThe Citizens Advice Notes Service (or CANS) provides an invaluable online resource giving a detailed summary of the laws of England, Wales and Scotland. It is compiled from the original Parliament sources - statutes and statutory instruments. It is split into 20 main sections as follows:
Web address: www.cans.org.uk Course Discover OnlineThe Course Discover database covers over 120,000 courses at over 1,000 universities and colleges of further and higher education, throughout the UK. Web address: www.coursediscoveronline.co.uk Creative ReviewFull access to current and back issues of this creative design magazine, from January 2007 onwards. Web address: www.creativereview.co.uk ebraryebrary provides 24/7 access to around 3,000 e-books which have been specially selected for further education students across many subjects areas. These e-books include several very popular titles, on a wide range of subjects taught in the College, which are in high demand and so may otherwise be difficult to obtain in printed format from the CLIC. Each e-book contains the entire text of the printed book (which is also searchable). They are available at all times online, they are never overdue, you can make/save electronics notes and you can print or copy/paste sections from them. This resource is also customisable allowing you to build your own bookshelf of e-books together with electronic bookmarks and annotations. Web address: www.filmandsound.ac.uk Gale databases19th Century British Library Newspapers: contains full runs of 48 influential national and regional newspapers representing different political and cultural segments of 19th century British society. Gale Virtual Reference Library: a searchable electronic library of 21 reference books which cover various topics including: science, child development; geography; business & finance, history, food & nutrition, culture, religion, pollution, arts & humanities, literature, psychology, e-commerce and fashion. General OneFile: a one-stop source for journal articles on a wide range of topics: art, business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. It features about 6,000 journals, just under half of which are available in full text (and over 73 million articles as of August 2008).The database is updated daily and images are available in some articles. Articles can be emailed and printed as text or in the original format as it appeared in the journal. InfoTrac Full Text Newspaper Database: a full text newspaper database covering around 37 major newspapers (over 20 million articles as of August 2008) including a wide selection of UK national and local newspapers, both tabloid and broadsheets together with some English language newspapers from abroad. Created and delivered by experts in hairdressing and education, Hairdressing Training will be updated regularly to reflect changes in styles and to include new haircuts. The full text of each section is available in pdf format. Web address: http://hpm.rsmjournals.com Issues OnlineA very useful online resource which brings together a wide range of current information from websites, magazines, lobby-group literature, statistical sources and government reports to provide easy-to-read articles, key facts and key statistics on various topical social issues. Web address: www.independence.co.uk Jorum (STAFF ONLY)Jorum is a repository providing access to learning and teaching materials and encouraging the sharing, re-use and re-purposing of them between teaching staff at UK FE and HE institutions. This is an excellent starting point if you are looking for up-to-date information on a wide variety of different aspects of life in the UK.
