Online resources & services
The LITEhouse subscribes to several online resources, listed below, which are freely available to staff and students. Access to these online resources is controlled in three ways:
via UK Federation log in as follows:
Step 1 Go to web address of the resource you wish to access Step 2 Click on link or button to log in via UK Federation or via your home organisation (e.g. via UK federation) Step 3 Select Langside College from the list of eligible institutions Step 4 Click OK in the "Choose a certificate" box Step 5 Log in using your Langside College network log in Step 6 You should now be given access to the resource
direct access without the need to log in through ip address authentication - please note that this will only work when using a computer in any of the college campuses
via separate username and password (available on request from CLIC staff)
Archival Sound Recordings (British Library)
A very diverse selection of audio clips, including spoken word, music and sounds, from the British Library Sound Archive which you can listen to and download.

Brill Journal Archive
This archive provides access to over 50,000 scholarly and technical articles on subjects such as biology, the humanities, human rights, international law, science, and the social sciences. These articles are taken from more than 80 journals published by Brill before 2000.
The Citizens Advice Notes Service (or CANS) provides an invaluable online resource giving a detailed summary of the laws of England, Wales and Scotland. It is compiled from the original Parliament sources - statutes and statutory instruments. It is split into 20 main sections as follows:

The Course Discover database covers over 120,000 courses at over 1,000 universities and colleges of further and higher education, throughout the UK.

Full access to current and back issues of this creative design magazine, from January 2007 onwards.

ebrary
ebrary provides 24/7 access to around 3,000 e-books which have been specially selected for further education students across many subjects areas. These e-books include several very popular titles, on a wide range of subjects taught in the College, which are in high demand and so may otherwise be difficult to obtain in printed format from the CLIC. Each e-book contains the entire text of the printed book (which is also searchable). They are available at all times online, they are never overdue, you can make/save electronics notes and you can print or copy/paste sections from them. This resource is also customisable allowing you to build your own bookshelf of e-books together with electronic bookmarks and annotations.

Online archives, from 1946 - present, of this quarterly journal aimed at teachers of English to speakers of other languages.

Quarterly journal with articles on various aspects of English literature with a website in 3 main parts:
emagclips: short video clips of writers and academics talking about texts and topics for A Level English emagpast: an online archive of emagazine with over 700 articles from previous issues emagplus: offers subscribers to the website at least four exclusive extras each issue.

Gale databases
19th Century British Library Newspapers: contains full runs of 48 influential national and regional newspapers representing different political and cultural segments of 19th century British society.
Gale Virtual Reference Library: a searchable electronic library of 21 reference books which cover various topics including: science, child development; geography; business & finance, history, food & nutrition, culture, religion, pollution, arts & humanities, literature, psychology, e-commerce and fashion.
General OneFile: a one-stop source for journal articles on a wide range of topics: art, business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. It features about 6,000 journals, just under half of which are available in full text (and over 73 million articles as of August 2008).The database is updated daily and images are available in some articles. Articles can be emailed and printed as text or in the original format as it appeared in the journal.
InfoTrac Full Text Newspaper Database: a full text newspaper database covering around 37 major newspapers (over 20 million articles as of August 2008) including a wide selection of UK national and local newspapers, both tabloid and broadsheets together with some English language newspapers from abroad. The archive of newspaper articles stretches back to 1996 and is updated daily.

Hairdressing Training
Hairdressing Training is an interactive online training resource, designed specifically for the UK education community, covering every area of the NVQ Level 2 syllabus. Created and delivered by experts in hairdressing and education, Hairdressing Training will be updated regularly to reflect changes in styles and to include new haircuts.

A very useful online resource which brings together a wide range of current information from websites, magazines, lobby-group literature, statistical sources and government reports to provide easy-to-read articles, key facts and key statistics on various topical social issues.

Jorum (STAFF ONLY)
Jorum is a repository providing access to learning and teaching materials and encouraging the sharing, re-use and re-purposing of them between teaching staff at UK FE and HE institutions.

Know UK database (ProQuest)
KnowUK is a unique online reference service, which provides key information on the people, places, and institutions of the UK. This is an excellent starting point if you are looking for up-to-date information on a wide variety of different aspects of life in the UK. It has electronic versions of a wide variety of useful reference works including: Hansard, Who's Who, Statesman's Yearbook and Whitaker's Almanack.

Online archive of scholarly articles in five main subject areas: humanities; law; medicine; science and social sciences with articles from over 140 titles. Please note that this subscription only gives us access to the content of each journal from Volume 1, Issue 1 up until the end of 1995.

Periodicals Archive Online
This is an archive of hundreds of digitised journals published in the arts, humanities and social sciences. You have access to the JISC Special Collection which consists of 80 journals specially selected to provide access to more than 100 years of scholarship, spread across a wide variety of subject areas.

Philip Allan Update magazines
Electronic versions of all the issues in the current volumes of the following Philip Allan Update magazines are available online at this website. Full issues of each magazine are available as digital magazines while other related support resources are available in Word, pdf and PowerPoint formats.
