CLIC resources

The CLIC is at the hub of meeting the information needs of our students and staff. We provide a wide range of resources including:

Printed resources

The CLIC has over 18,000 printed resources in total which are split into a number of different collections including: non-fiction lending; reference; careers; audio/visual; hardback fiction, paperback fiction, short stories, biography and the Issue Desk where several commonly requested reference works including past exam papers, reports, collections of statistics, and Acts of Parliament are kept. The biggest collection is non-fiction lending where resources are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system (the CLIC's online catalogue directs you to the Dewey numbers of the resources you need). Also guides are displayed at the end of each bay of shelving to help you find your way in the number sequence. The careers section has prospectuses for all the Scottish universities and a wide range of other universities and colleges in the UK. There are also separate shelves for A/V resources, biography, short stories and fiction books (paperback fiction is available from browser stands).

Audio/visual resources

We have around 1,000 audio/visual resources including audio tapes, video tapes, compact discs and DVDs. These are split into two main sections: video tapes on various non-fiction subjects (arranged by Dewey Decimal numbers) and recreational A/V resources, including audio books on tape & CD and films on video & DVD, which are shelved on browser stands. The non-fiction videos would count towards your normal borrowing rights while you are allowed to borrow up to 2 additional items from the recreational A/V resource collection.

Magazines / Newspapers

The CLIC subscribes to around 85 magazines or journals covering a wide range of subjects taught at the College as well as topical information of general interest. Magazines are arranged in alphabetical order with current issues for reference only in the CLIC while back issues (on shelf underneath or in library store) can be borrowed for one week at a time. We also take 2 daily newspapers The Guardian and The Herald. The CLIC also subscribes to 2 educational newspapers: the Times Educational Supplement (Scotland) and the Times Higher Educational Supplement. View a full listing of the magazines we stock.

ICT resources

The CLIC has 24 computers which can be booked for up to one hour at a time. Each computer has high speed Internet access together with a wide range of software including Microsoft Office 2003, Internet Explorer and Microsoft FrontPage. Scanners are connected to 8 computers: PC1, PC6, PC7, PC12, PC13, PC18, PC19 and PC24. Also a high quality colour network printer is available to all computers.
